Transport Your Fertilizers Safely
Fertilizers belong to a broad category of cargo known as "Chemicals". About 50 million types of fertilizers are transported around the world each year. According to the UN's Comtrade database, 90% of these shipments are loose and liquid cargoes.
According to the International Fertilizer Association (IFA), the demand for mineral fertilizers has increased almost sixfold over the past 50 years. The leading countries in the field of mineral fertilizers are densely populated China and India, which account for one-third of the total demand, and the United States and Brazil. The world's five largest producers - China, the United States, India, Russia and Canada - are responsible for approximately 60% of the total global production of agrochemicals.
The list of most frequently imported fertilizers includes nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, as well as blended fertilizers. The main players in this market are specialized agrochemical companies such as Agrium, Mosaic, PotashCorp, OCP, EuroChem, PhosAgro and Uralkali. According to IFA, the growth of the world's mineral fertilizer production capacity so far exceeds the growth in demand, but the situation in some segments will change in the future.
Fertilizer manufacturers, traders and consumers are constantly in search of solutions to optimize logistics costs, which significantly affect the final costs of goods. In order to successfully sell logistics services in the chemical industry, the cargo, that is, its properties, storage and transportation conditions, must be fully examined.
